We may find, that the entire science of Psychology has overstepped its bounds in trying to look into the soul instead of being satisfied with ameliorating the psyche. Where Psychology has much success in finding past causes of present behavior patterns by looking back into childhood, it finds itself on very shaky ground if it attempts to look backward even further, past the moment of birth.

If we throw one more variable into the mix, that being the subjective view of the Psychologist, Hypnotist or Regressionist, we find this method all but crumbles on the weakness of unsubstantiated conclusions that in the end do little to help the individual actually find their true self, let alone find a harmonious compatible partner to share their life with.

Yet, this is a serious subject that demands a more quantifiable result that can offer reliability. In other words, results must be able to be repeated in test after test, under varying conditions. Only in this way, can a reliable science of Compatibility evolve.

This is where Astrology finds some of its greatest strength. Based on the premise that people lie, but charts do not lie, Astrology has within it, the tools to find not only the very essence of what an individual is really like, but also their relationship needs and Karmic challenges.

It doesn't matter if a person says they like moonlit walks by the beach. If their chart shows they are intrinsically lazy and dispassionate, then we can immediately dismiss their false remarks. If yet another person says they have trouble with their temper and we find their chart shows a weakly aspected mutable Mars or Pluto, then in fact, we can dismiss this too with the realization that their real problem is their sensitivity to the anger of others and we might explore why it is they feel they have to internalize such destructive energies.

The point is, Astrology in its never-ending search for truth, gives us a guide in the horoscope chart that prevents us from labeling everyone as Cleopatra or giving in to the self-deceit that often rules the unaware.

Even more important, Astrology can take this one step further. Where Psychology cannot really surpass the boundaries of this life alone, Astrology can reach easily into past incarnations, finding the left-over residue in soul memories (via the Nodes, the Twelfth House and connected Planetary aspects to these and other important chart points) that have to be resolved in this life.

In this way, we do not have to trust hypnotic fantasies, or well-meaning helpers or psychologists who have been unwittingly lead into these aggrandized schemes of the unconscious. Instead, we have the dictates of the Chart as our measure, and within the time-tested parameters and doctrines of good solid Astrological intelligence blending with sober wisdom, can find not only the very core of the person's soul, but with that their Karmic responsibilities in this incarnation.

Moreover, we can study not only their chart placements, but the relationships these placements have to the chart of another, and from this derive an unbelievably accurate sense of what kind of compatible experience they can enjoy or suffer in a relationship.

To the extent that the contact points between two charts elicit learning responses from deeply ingrained behavior patterns, we can determine in what ways the Karma of each individual is being effected. To see this clearer, we must also realize that each person brings with them the memories and experiences of their past, as well as practiced behavior patterns and comfortable modes of expression, as they contemplate a relationship with another.
