Polarities: Masculine-Feminine
The Ancient Asian concept of Yin and Yang shows us that all properties of life are either Negative
(Yin) or Positive (Yang) in nature. The rushing rapids of water are Yang because of their tremendous
power for change. A calm lake would be Yin because of its stillness and receptivity. In the
western world, we equate the Yang property to the Masculine or positive principle. The Yin property
then becomes the Feminine or negative principle. A Snowstorm would be the Yang property of the
Masculine positive principle impressing itself onto Mother Earth, which in turn would be the
Yin or Feminine negative principle, receiving the impression.
Astrology designates each sign as being either Yang Masculine (positive) or Yin Feminine (negative).
In doing this, there is no intention for these designations to connotate one sign being better
or worse than another, or either polarity having any sexual connotation as well.
Instead, Masculine or Positive in Astrology means outgoing, forceful, outer-directed, an
extroverted personality and action instead of reaction. Individuals born of a positive sign
like to cause things, rather than wait for the effects. These signs are very expressive, often
spending a great deal of energy to impress others.
The Masculine or Positive signs are often subjective in their outlook, and will tend to take
more than their share of psychic space in most of their relationships with others. These
Masculine or Positive signs are the heroes and actors on the world stage.
Feminine or Negative in Astrology means indwelling, receptive, inner-directed, an introverted
personality and reaction instead of action. Individuals born of a negative sign like to deal
with the effects of things rather than cause life to happen. These signs tend to be sensitive,
creative, sometimes shy, often gentle, yet quite protective.
These Feminine or Negative signs while often emotional can nevertheless be more objective than
positive signs because of their receptivity. They tend to take less than their share of psychic
space in most relationships, often providing the imagnation for positive signs to act on. These
signs are the givers to humanity, and the observers of life in all its wonder.
The Fire Signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are always Masculine or Postive Yang signs. So too, are
the Air Signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The Earth Signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are
always Feminine or Negative Yin signs. So too are the Water Signs, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
You are likely to have some planets in Masculine (positive) signs with others in Feminine
(negative) signs. This is why you feel or act differently in one part of your life than you do
in another. The goal is to achieve a life of Balance, so that your Yin and Yang are productive
to each other.
To understand how to achieve balance between Yin and Yang, you might want to listen
to an allegory entitled "What is Fortune". To play this story Click here then scroll down for (Excerpt from book).
