ASTROLOGER VIEW: The Path to Inner Peace

A great deal of new age thought tends to be focused around finding ways to experience inner peace. Amidst the chaotic world we live in, we are constantly confronted with contradictions.

A problem resulting from this, is the difficulty in making trustworthy contact with ideas that have lasting value. Since Jupiter has entered Scorpio (now transiting the Pisces decanate of the sign), the world in seeking its truth (Jupiter), has instead encountered confusing evasiveness (Pisces), disguised in secrets (Scorpio). This has been especially frustrating due to reprehensible liars, con artists, and unbefore heard of scams so far from any truths we have ever known that we must now put in extra effort to hold onto all we believe in.

If we seek the safety of a spiritual retreat, and withdraw from the world, we can to some extent avoid the harshness of these effects. Yet, for most of us, this is not possible. As a result, we must find ways to protect all that brings us inner peace, regardless of life's extreme circumstances.

We are seeing the moral decay of society at proportions not even imagined in recent history. Some of this is the Pluto in Capricorn transit (as mentioned in the January '08 Newsletter). Consider the toppling of Bear Stearns (an age old 'Capricornian-like' instituion being affected by Pluto bringing all of its problems to the surface). Consider further, the Jupiter in Scorpio transit ala Elliot Spitzer- brought to justice (Jupiter) because of getting caught in a hidden sting (Scorpio). We can also see some of the Pluto in Capricorn transit in this as well, since Pluto rules endings, brought about because of deceit not easily tolerated in Capricorn, the sign of trusted tradtional mainstays, such as the office of Governor, which of course we expect to be above reproach.

Yet, these are but two minor examples of what is really happening. The rampant decline of morality is evident on so many levels that it is almost reminiscent of what happened to Rome.

If you think back in history you can easily find societies that destroyed themselves because of their own immmorality. In more recent history, Nazi Germany blamed everyone (especially Jews) for their economic problems, which eventually resulted in them making a war they could not handle. In even more recent history, America is in a war it cannot handle because of its own immoral subterfuges to the United Nations (ala weapons of mass destruction which were never found), its Goverment which authorized an undeclared War now in its fifth year, and the fearfully passive acceptance of its People, who have not yet realized that especially in this Aquarian Age, the power of the Government has to be in the hands of the governed.

This is all part of an early ramification of this new Aquarian Age we have recently entered. In the early stages of things, we experience the raw extremes. It is only until after many mis-steps that years later we begin to reach some evolution. Thus, in the earliest moments of this Aquarian Age, we are getting the results of people, nations, and their governments taking too much Aquarian freedom, and liberties with our consciousness. This leads to moral abuse. And, if we ask ourselves why this is happening,- i.e. why have people and those governing them made such a mockery of the freedoms we hold so dear? It is because they CAN!

There isn't a day without phishing spam in your email trying to elicit your money, your identity, invade your privacy or in some way use you for illegal purposes. We have all paid the price for this by putting so much security on our computers and websites that it now takes much more effort and costs more in anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-spyware programs to do what just a few years ago we took for granted. Thus, seeing the danger of Pluto, we have tightened our defenses (Capricorn).

Yet, this is only a small part of the problem. Years ago, individuals who had the privilege of public access to any form of media (be it books, magazines, radio or television) had their ideas filtered within an editing process that both refined and checked the accuracy of what would be for public consumption. This may have been a result of the culmination of the Piscean Age as man's consideration for others became important. We all benefited because of this.

In fact, if we think about it, people whose lives effect only a very small circle of acquaintances cannot do too much social harm by saying whatever they want. This is a freedom we respect,- especially in this Aquarian Age. But, when one has access to any form of media that reaches thousands of people, there is a grave responsibility for not betraying the 'public trust'. And this, is a qualifier on our freedom of expression, that in the long run actually protects it for us.

Since the internet, however, the notion of public responsbility has all but disappeared. Anyone can post nebulous answers to any question, and insist on assumed accuracy, regardless of whether or not their information has any basis in fact.

How many times have you searched the net to find the answer to a simple question? Perhaps you wanted to know how to fix a minor setting. You would start out feeling elated at finding an answer so quickly, only to find that when you applied it, the method that was supposed to fix your setting, crashed your entire computer! The problem is that whomever gave you the answer was not conscienscious enough to check its worthiness before disseminating it. And, there you would be, stuck in yet another set of problems you had not anticipated.

Do you remember when you would buy a shirt and a little tag told you it was inspected by number 3? Ahh for some quality control that shows us we live in a world that cares about what might become of us.

I mentioned Jupiter in Scorpio becuase it is an especially tough transit that brings attention to these kind of problems, since Jupiter- the planet of truth is affected by Scorpio- the sign of secrets, hiding, evasive sneakiness and sadly, sometimes outright lies.

The difficulty of this transit is magnified by the fact that Scorpio is such a deep sign. As such, the untruths we are forced to deal with are not easy to sluff off. We have to look deep within ourselves before realizing how sneakily we are being duped. Yet, we must see this in a larger context,- as an ill of society that has been all but too slow in learning its lessons.

If we are to find the path to inner peace amidst all of this, we must learn not to engage evil by fighting with it. There is a tendency to explode negatives by engaging them head on. When the darkness is confronted with the light,- it fights, because its nature is to protect itself. Yet, it is important for us to realize that we must see the darkness as well as the light to get a balanced view of life. In fact, we can only see the light when it is contrasted in darkness!

Yet, seeing darkness and how we deal with it are two different things. We are tempted to fight with darkness because of our desire to teach to others, what we cherish so dearly in our own lives. Yet, we must always wait for the 'teachable moment.'

When darkness is ready to receive the light, it is effortless and harmless. In this light, we ask the question, "Can our society be saved?" Maybe! If we put a real value on whatever light we have and use it wisely, so that decadence does not extinguish our hope for mankind's future.

There will always be spiritual ignorance in the world and from time to time it will gnaw at us (impersonally or personally), yet if we are vigilant about our truths, putting forth the time and effort to protect them as much as anything else we value, we will not be tempted to give away inner peace just to win momentary arguments with darkness. Waiting for those insightful teachable moments, makes it possible for us to have a greater effect on world consciousness than exhausting ourselves in every minor skirmish.

It will take some time, but the end result of the Jupiter in Scorpio transit may well force us, to look deeper for our truths, not just in our private sanctuaries, but in the often harsh levels of external human behavior, where sometimes the very deepest of answers comes from the most unlikely places.

SPRING EQUINOX
March. 20, 2008 5:48 A.M. U.T.

On March 20, 2008, we mark the beginning of Spring. This Vernal (Spring) Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere (simultaneously the Autumnal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere) is also the beginning of a new Astrological year as the Sun enters the Sign Aries.

At the exact time of this Equinox the Sun will be positioned directly above the equator, making day and night approximately equal in length all over the world. The word, Equinox is translated from the Latin "equi" (equal) and "nox" (night).

Because of the Earth's 23'44" tilt on its axis, our northern hemisphere leans towards the Sun from March 20 (Spring Equinox) to September 22 (Autumnal Equinox). During this time, the days are longer, with maximum daylight being reached on June 21st. Also, because of this tilt, The Sun's rays are most direct (in the northern hemisphere) during the summer months and furthest away during the winter months.

There is always a welcoming feeling at the beginning of things and so too with the onset of the Spring season. One might only imagine in primitive times, man would have felt especially blessed to receive the heavenly favors of more sunlight, relief from the cold and ice, while seeing the thawing spring streams running again, surrounded by the early blooms of natures flowers.

People could see that their food supplies would soon be restored. It is probably no coincidence that early Egyptians built the Great Sphinx so that it points directly toward the rising Sun on the day of the vernal equinox.

For us in the Northern Hemisphere, this is a time of renewal. It is the solar return of the zodiac itself as we begin a new cycle with renewed reasons to be hopeful in our hearts for a better year to come. On a more personal note, your own renewal should be experienced in matters of the house where the first degree of Aries is located in your own chart.
