ASTROLOGER VIEW: Astrology Looks at Hot Trends



     If anything holds influence over these modern times we live in, it is the speeding up of our lives in a connected environment. Since the advent of mobile technology, we have faster availability of everything.

The world seems smaller as events from across the globe reach us as they occur. Pictures, and emotional imagry flash on our screens in an endless stream of consciousness, over hundreds of channels that randomize our attention and shorten our focus.

While the Planets move at the same speed they always do, this exaggerated influx of information may well have an effect on how we perceive what Planetary transits are really doing. As more external stimuli compete for our attention, it becomes difficult for us to use our outer Planets to develop depth and perspective. We need these slower-moving Planets to better understand life within larger contexts, coming from longer term transits and progressions.

Yet, the way information is presented to us, we become pinned to the edge of our seats trying to make some sense of the speeding graphics that flash across our screen, just fast enough so that we cannot have enough time to experience our own reactions to them before the screen changes to entirely different images and unrelated subjects.

Actually, this is what media wants. Some years ago, advertising psychology would sneak sublte sex images into commercials, by hiding them inside ice cubes in order to sell alcoholic beverages. This was done in all kinds of commercials (not only ice cubes or alcohol) just below the conscious threshold of attention in order to reach the viewer's subtle unconscious (Neptune).

Current advertising has found that the "in your face" approach, blitzing your senses into blind numbness works better!

The point is to scatter your unconscious defenses by making you not pay attention to your better judgment gained by experience (Saturn). While your eyes (the window to the soul) are so focused on this flashing imagry (which on purpose, changes faster than you can sort into meaningful usefulness), your unconscious has all but given up trying to find order in this external stimuli it is being exposed to.

This presents a real challenge for how we look at life, for only if we can understand the onslaught of digital imagry (Neptune in Aquarius) that we are being exposed to, can we develop enough insight to change our perceptions. Interestingly enough, this "blitizing" our minds by the media, is starting to have a strange and unexpected Karmic effect.

People are becoming more impersonal to media's attempts to grab at their personal lives. The advent of this new Aquarian age that we are experiencing is changing the Piscean Age passivity of the masses, to a more active (Uranian-like) consciousness that likes to think for itself. We are starting to realize that even though none of us can be as BIG as anyone trying to overpower us, we can be detached and impersonal to the annoying spam of life, which in effect enables us to find a sharper focus on the real meaning of our own existence.

The more we become "individuals", the more difficult it becomes for media to "own" us all! Thus, each year we find more channels, more Facebooks and YouTubes in a desperate attempt to own our ever-increasing existential curiosities. Yet, we are more than our Moon (our emotions) and Mercury (our minute-by-minute attention span).

In the end, we may not concquer the world, but if this Aquarian Age shows us anything, it can make us realize the great Archetype change that is occurring on this earth, as mankind dissolves the unrealized dreams of the past (the Piscean Age) that held rulership over our goals and aspirations, and instead, learns to accept our personal diversities, our individuality, and the universality of each and every one of us, needed and important, in a world where we can no longer follow or lead, but instead walk side by side into a consciousness of oneness that brings us all together for our common good.

Maybe one day, even the media will learn that it can reach better Karma in this Aquarian Age, by listening to the social changes of the fair masses, rather than trying (as it has in so many past generations) to control and overpower their sensitivities.

On the first monday in September (this year, September 1, 2008), Americans celebrate Labor Day, to commemorate the American Labor Movement, which is really a tribute to the immigrants of foreign lands (America is the melting pot of the world), who have come together to build a nation of richness and achievements.

In the great aspirations that cross our minds, the day to day mundane ordinary efforts of labor are often lost in importance. Thus, we try to remember on this day, the real meaning of 'good works', so that we can better respect our mundane efforts on this earth.

In this way, workers can feel pride in their own contribution to the history of America. Thus, Labor Day is actually a yearly recognition of all the dedicated American workers whose social and economic achievements are deserving of honor.

Astrologically, this important holiday, which teaches us to respect the mundane levels in life, always occurs during the sign Virgo, which symbolizes work, working conditions, and the day to day attention to details that helps to bring order to our lives.

Working also makes us feel mentally healthy and Virgo under the rulership of Mercury which rules the lower mind, says much for the mental health of all who apply themselves, and dedicate their lives to functioning with purpose and meaning so that in some personal way, their work contributes to a better existence for the greater whole.

Let us this day, recognize every day you have worked, and all your efforts have achieved towards making this a better world because you are in it.
