ASTROLOGER VIEW: What Is a Billionaire?


When the term Billionaire is mentioned, most people think of dollar signs followed by their imagination of all the yachts, clothes, cars, and vacation homes they could envision themselves enjoying. Yet, what billionaires have or spend their money on tells us very little about what has brought them to such pheomenal success.

To see this, we should rule out those billionaires who have achieved their status through inheritance. This would eliminate 5 of the top 21 billionaires in the world, as they all are descendants of Sam Walton (founder of Walmart). If we limit our study to those whose lives are based on self-achievement, we can get a better picture of the fibre and motives of actual self-made billionaires.

Studying these select individuals, we find some unexpected behavior patterns seem to characterize their lives. For one thing, billionaires are less "showy" than millionaires. While they may from time to time enjoy some public attention, they don't crave it or live on a steady diet of fanfare.

Billionaires who can well afford almost anything, tend to dress very ordinary. They are down to earth and practical. Some are so conservative in their appearance and behavior that we might wonder how they have achieved so much.

Most billionaires seem easy to talk to. They tend to be patient and listen to others, rather than rushing someone off. They live in a very big world and when you speak to them, there is room for you in their space. In this sense, they seem to be more courteous than most of us.

To understand this a little deeper, we have to realize that because of the law of uninteded consequences, most billionaires have a great deal of people depending upon them for their livelihoods, support of their families, their health care and their future retirement. Billionaires are big employers of large amounts of people, which makes them surrogate father figures, and grandfather figures, to huge extended families they are constantly feeding, protecting, nourishing and teaching.

In this sense, billionaires, although they like their privacy, have tremendous social influence. They end up caring very much about what happens to society and play large roles in helping to shape world karma.

Perhaps one of the most hidden qualities of billionaires is the fact that most of them have experienced failure. Yet, from this, they have garnered strength and built their character to never quit on themselves or the vision they have for the future of their own lives and the world they are helping to shape.

It is safe to say that those who fear to try because they fear failure, and never experience failure, may never achieve billionaire status. Thus, it is not just money that defines billionaires, but a combination of factors, none the least of which is a great deal of character-building, facing and overcoming fears and obstacles, while struggling with seemingly insurmountable problems.

These individuals never quit on their dreams, for they are driven by a competitive spirit that knows no boundaries. It is not any one of these factors alone that define what it takes to become a billionaire. Instead, it is all of them, complimenting each other, working in harmony, each quality enhancing the others.

Most of all, there is the knowledge that having a vision is never enough. Seeing the way does not get one there. Studies of billionaires show a common thread of willingness to strive for perfection, paying attention to every little detail, rolling up one's shirt sleeves and getting down to the very hard work that gets the job done.

Most billionaires know their companies down to the minutest detail. They have struggled on the lowest levels of karma and solved problems that beset them, willingly building at every opportunity.

If you look at a list of over 700 billionaires, there are only a handful of names you would recognize, such is their need to apply themselves to their chosen work without the interruption of public fanfare. In fact, if we study their charts, we may well realize that each of these individuals is fulfilling their karma.

Ingvar Kamprad, the fourth richest man in the world ($28 Billion) and founder of IKEA, the home furnishing chain, has a Cancer North Node and Capricorn South Node. Cancer rules home and Capricorn is the earth matter that protects and furnishes a home.

Yet, there are many people who have these nodes and most of them do not become billionaires. Then, let us look a little deeper. Kamprad's north node is in the Pisces decanate of Cancer, the creative part of the sign. With Neptune conjunct the Moon in Leo not only is more creativity added to the chart, but the competitive spirit is enhanced, along with the Leonian non-quitting attitude that does not like to give up. As IKEA got bigger, more employees came to depend on him, bringing out the parental qualities of his Cancer (mother) and Capricorn (father) Nodes.

In the Chart of BIll Gates, founder of Microsoft, (worth $50 Billion) we again find a strong competitive spirit with Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto all in Leo, which incidentally is also the sign of father. At the same time the intense need to compete at anything is enhanced further by the Aries Moon.

Karmically, Gates has a Gemini South Node which rules thought, ideas, learning and communication. With Microsoft Windows and the many accompanying computer applications and new versions, he has enabled individuals to give and receive ideas to and from each other helping them to educate themselves. His North Node in Sagittarius not only signifies the world-wide scope of his far-reaching communicative efforts, but also his philanthropic activities helping those in foreign lands to have opportunities (Sagittarius rules opportunities).

If we pour through the lives of different billionaires, we are sure to see exaggerations of good and bad, amidst the blessings of high moral fibre and the curses of low immoral behavior. These individuals are far from perfect, and their personal lives are not necessarily any happier than those who earn modest incomes. Their life problems also tend to be exaggerated. Howard Hughes became so fearful of germs that he eventually refused to leave his hotel room. Astrologically, he had two malefics Mars and Saturn in his Health House, along with his South Node in Aquarius (which can often rule bizarre behavior).

Yet, if there is one undeniable thread that runs through most self-made billionaires, it is their propensity for work, which may be the reason that the sign that shows up the most in billionaire charts, is Virgo,- the sign of work, labor, paying attention to detail, and being a servant to what eventually turns out to be some improvement to the furtherance of humanity, even if the individual never imagined or intended it.

Eventually, most billionaires become philanthropists, playing active roles in reaching out to others. They help the disadvantaged and the poor while bringing hope and possibility into the lives of individuals whose karmic journeys have been less fortunate.

There is a saying: "In life, there are only lifters and leaners. Three in ten are lifters." It is unquestionably the billionaires, who know the struggles, that become the world's lifters! With all their imperfections, foibles and faults, they are willing to assume so much responsibility and care for others, in so many ways, that this ultimately becomes their outstanding karmic contribution to mankind, far and above the billions of worth that has passed through their hands.

The Karmic question then becomes,- If you want to be a billionaire, how many lives are you willing to pay for?
