ASTROLOGER VIEW: Karmic Compatibility

One of the most exciting and in depth uses of Astrology, is the science of Chart Comparison (sometimes called Synastry). The ability to study two different charts and finding how they fit with each other, far surpasses any other method of social comparison.

We have seen dating services attempting to matchmake individuals with compatible likes and dislikes based on how questionaries are filled out. The only problem with this, and it is a large one, is that most people tend to stretch the truth.

What woman has not had difficulty remembering her exact age? What man has not rivaled fisherman stories about his accomplishments? Often, people filling out questionaries will try to answer questions according to what they think is expected of them, and what they believe will make them more desirable.

Although none of this is intentionally harmful or meant to be destructive, it unfortunately creates a situation that violates the most basic premise of scientific research, and that is-"the final result cannot be more accurate than the data inputted to begin with.". As a result, basing even the finest computer-matching algorithms on inaccurate data, decreases the social accuracy of matchmaking and dating so much that it is all but impossible for it to come up with truly suitable compatibilities.

When it comes to Astrological comparison of two charts, this problem of working with inaccurate data is taken out. Because Astrological compatibility only needs the birth information for both individuals, it obviates those instances where people's imaginations tempt them to tell little lies (or big ones), by the glaring exactness of all the Astrological placements in the charts themselves, which do not lie!

The contacts between planets in one chart and another are either harmonious or they are not. One individual's planets are either contributing to the happiness of another or detracting from it. Morever, since Astrology compares aspects between ten planets and two nodes in each chart, with almost an infinite number of ways each of these can be contacting each other, every little subtle nuance of a relationship comes under scrutiny.

Thus, Astrology recognizes the fact that life is not always as simple as it seems. The ways individuals influence each other often cover a wide range of feelings, thoughts and emotions, as well as actions and effects. Some of these are obvious. Many of these are quite subtle, even to the point of being subconscious.

Consider how entirely possible it is for a person to love and hate another at the same time. In fact, most individuals experience a variety of mixed feelings in their social interractions, because each relationship has many overlays of effects, all exerting their influence at the same time.

In this way, we can experience someone's emotionality as being entirely immature, because of one chart contact we have with them, while another chart contact makes us need and love them nevertheless. Perhaps an individual with a low degree moon in Cancer might strike you as childlike, while at the same time, their Saturn forming a contact with your Ascendant makes you depend on their constancy and sense of responsibility.

As important as it is to look at all of the major aspects between two charts to get a good honest sense of the tone and outcome of a relationship, marriage or partnership, what can be even more exciting is to see the Karmic Compatibility in it.

Thus, it is not merely the chart contacts that become important, insofar as whether they are harmonious or not, but whether or not each individual is helping the other to fulfill their karma in this life. In other words, if an individual has reincarnated to accomplish difficult challenges, then the question is, should they be in a relationship so void of demands that lulls them into laziness, or would they be better off feeling some abrasive prodding, criticism and friction, that keeps forcing them to face the karmic challenges their soul has chosen?

Sometimes, the most difficult relaitonships bring the most growth. Yet, often these relationships do not last. They can be spouses, friends, co-workers, acquaintences. They must, if they are in your life to affect you karmically, be compatibile enough with you so that you listen to the message, and be with you long enough for the message to be absorbed and the lessons learned. This is why your soul picks your parents, and creates your children, for in both of these instances, some of your most deepest karmic lessons will be learned.

In looking for Karmic Compatibility, we must first study the karma of one individual by themself. Then do the same for the other. In this way, we have a good idea of why each person is living this life. Once this is clear, it then becomes possible to look at both charts inasmuch as how they affect each other. This way, we can see how each is helping or testing the other to recognize and meet the karmic challenges that face them. Even areas of disagreement are important, for they bring out answers we would otherwise not be looking for.

If we can be so wise as to accept each relationship in our life (even the most difficult ones) as growth experiences, we will learn so much about why we are here that it will open our hearts and minds to a greater understanding of our wonderful place in this ever-evolving universe we live in.
