When we think of the word 'power,' what immediately comes to mind is images of strength and force. We have seen documentaries of nations attempting to rule by force, even in these current times of our Aquarian Age. They offer military parades and rocket launches in order to instill fear and posture themselves in the world arena with formidable shows of strength.

    On more modest levels, we are constantly exposed to the world of advertising, where commercials are leading us to believe that something will give us more power. Only a few years ago, this was in the form of maximum horsepower automobiles, which have since become too inefficient to be considered functional. But, the concept of power lingers on. Wearing a certain perfume might make a woman have more power over the men she is interested in. A man can have power by exhausting himself in extensive workout training. A parent can have power over their children by filtering out certain t.v. channels. On and on the lure of power is everywhere, throughout almost all cultures and most individuals, regardless of age, sex, denomination or outlook. Even the lure of voting in an election is an exercise in how much one has power over the outcome of all.

    Yet, if we study all the different kinds of power we could possibly imagine, we come to realize certain things that might never otherwise have occurred to us. The more one uses power to achieve something, the more one has to keep using power to sustain it. What is taken by force, must be held by force. This is such a basic rule of life that it is difficult to conceive why it has never occurred to people how incredulous it is to try to rule others, either personally, professionally, or politically with the iron hand of power.

    Last April, Neptune teased us with a slight hint of its transit into Pisces. After a few scant months, the early days of August saw this elusive Planet slip right back into Aquarius, where it has been ever since. This month, however, a more earnest direct motion transit of Neptune enters Pisces again, but this time it will be there until the cows come home (or, according to your local cow calendar, March 31, 2025).

    This will give us enough time to feel the power of this incredible planet in the sign where it is most at home,-- as its ruler! At first, a long term transit often confuses people, as they are unaccustomed to its effects. Resultantly, individuals tend to experience the extremes of the transit, particularly during the time it moves through the early degrees of the first decanate of the sign (from 1 - 10 degrees).

    During this transit, we can expect extremely subtle changes in our lives and in the society we live in. These changes will not be all that clear at the beginning of thetransit. Amidst the early effects of Neptune in Pisces, we can expect more than the usual political subterfuge (in a pre-election year) based on promises, distorted imagery, and the struggle for beliefs in the minds of would-be constituents. On a world basis, relations between countries may at first be unclear as Neptune tends to blur the lines of demarcation, right or wrong, principals or doctrine, and the differences that help us to define the issues of life that concern us.

    How society deals with escapism will become quite important as Neptune rules the need to free oneself of restricting structure, form and limitations. Thus, we might hear a lot more about drugs, alcohol, diets and systems we should believe in; all of which can be helpful or hurtful to humanity depending entirely upon how we as individuals deal with the illusory qualities of life. On an amusing note, we can expect movies to be more romantic, clothing styles to become more tasteful, and trendy colors to be more subtle with even more imaginative illusion-provoking names ( ala “basketweave”, “unpainted fingernail,” etc.).

    Yet, more than anything else, amidst all this subtlety and imagery, Neptune holds within it one of the greatest powers known to mankind. It is a power that all great masters and human beings have the opportunity to reach for and use. It is a power that Gandhi knew, and it is a power that Ronald Reagan knew as well. In fact, it is a power that one does not have to be a world leader to learn.

    It is the power of forgiving those who have hurt us. After Ronald Reagan was shot, and was in fear for his life, he came to the realization that the only way he could pray for help for himself, was to forgive the would-be assassin. All of the people in your personal life that you admire the most, are those who are learning how to practice this incredible power of forgiveness.

    Neptune in Pisces brings us into a formless world where no one is better or worse than anyone else, with one important exception. The world will smile on those who have faced their karma enough to have learned how to forgive the foibles, guile, deceit and shortcomings of others.

    It is from the pureness of this highest quality that embodies almost all human virtues, that the freedom of heart and mind which enables true spiritual growth and the reaching of our own creative potential can spring from.

    Even the bible itself only promises forgiveness for us "as we forgive those who sin against us." It is through our ability to forgive, that we break down the barriers that are holding us back, and learn to blend (rulership of Neptune) into the oneness that God intended humanity to become.

    Of all the powers on this earth, we can only hope to gain power over ourselves, and to reach this, we must pass every karmic test that teaches us how to forgive the 'spiritual ignorance' of others. This may well be Neptune's most powerful attribute, as it caresses our hearts during this ruling sign transit, for this is a time when we may opt to free our lives of the baggage of grudges, even the secret hidden semi-conscious ones, wrapped in ages of prejudicial fears, that have kept lives from experiencing the most wonderful Divine spiritual Love that Neptune promises us all.
